Surface absorption of functional atoms is believed to implement the quantum spin/anomalous hall state.A problem arises that the surface absorption will simultaneously induce additional electronic scattering while introducing the required functionalities.Such scatterings may suppress the coherence of the Dirac Fermions and subsequently disable these desired quantum states.
