Given the overwhelming evidence showing adult neurogenesis in the mammalian brain and its potential role in cognitive function, the relationship between adult neurogenesis, cognitive deficits, and neurodegenerative diseases has become an emerging topic of interest. This is of particular relevance in the ageing population, given the increasing prevalence of cognitive deficits associated with neurodegenerative diseases.
