Residential building stock and energy consumption in Chongqing

  Building sector is one of the biggest energy consumers in the world and it accounts for 36%of total energy consumption in China.Urban residential building sector and rural residential building sector already accounted for 22%and 25%of total building energy consumption respectively in China.But the proportion of residential energy consumption is expected to further increase due to the desperate needs for winter heating in hot summer and cold winter zone.In order to improve building energy efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide emission,residential building in hot summer and cold winter zone should be paying more attention.Chongqing,one of the metropolitans in hot summer and cold winter zone was selected as a case study in this paper.The development of Chongqing residential building standards was reviewed and the current residential building stock had been analysed based on the authorised censor data.A residential building stock framework had been constructed based on the censor data.The average energy use intensity in rural and urban Chongqing were calculated using available statistic data.A comparison between the calculated energy use intensity and the constraint indicators for residential building in Chinese building energy standard indicated that the average residential energy consumption are higher than the standard requirements.
