The extraction of rare earth from acid leach solutions of spent nickel-metal hydride rechargeable batteries using primary amine extractant of N1923 was studied. The effects of feed pH, temperature, shaking frequency and time on the extraction of rare earth, as well as stripping agent composition and concentration, stripping phase ratio on the stripping of rare earth was investigated. In addtion, the extraction isotherm was determined. The pilot plant test results showed that the extraction of rare earth reached 99.99% after five counter current extraction. The rare earth precipitate with 98.5% purity and impurity content less than 0.05% was obtained by the addition of oxalic acid in loaded strip liquors. The extractant exhibited good selectivity of rare earth over other elements and stable performance.
