To consider the deleterious effects of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) during cardiac surgery,we hypothesized that reactive oxygen species (ROS) plays an important role in the modulation of CPB-induced inflammatory response.In the present study,we established an animal model to mimic clinical CPB circulation.Plasma concentrations of cytokines and aortic NADPH oxidase activity were measured after pump off.Moreover,N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC),a well known antioxidant,was applied to evaluate the potential anti-inflammatory effects undergoing CPB.
