Body measurement and meat quality traits, influenced by genes and environmental factors, play important roles in the evaluation of productivity and economy in livestock breeding.Previous studies showed that CIDEC gene was involved in lipid storage and energy metabolism. The aim of this study was to find out the polymorphism of bovine CIDEC gene and analyze its possible association with body measurement and meat quality traits in 531 randomly selected Qinchuan cattle (aged from 18 to 24 months).DNA sequencing and PCR-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) were employed to detect CIDEC single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs).Sequence analysis of CIDEC gene showed five SNPs: two in exon5 (G5432A and C5541T) and three in 3 untranslated region (3UTR) of exon6 (C8898T, A8914G, and G8924A).The G5432A SNP is a missense mutation resulting in an Arginine to Glutamine amino acid change, constructed two genotypes namely GG and AG.The C5541T SNP is a synonymous mutation, constructed there genotypes namely CC, CT and TT.Additionally, it was demonstrated that the three SNPs in 3UTR were in linkage, only showed two genotypes namely CC-AA-GG and CT-AG-GA.Analysis results indicated that there were significant associations between these polymorphisms and body measurement and meat quality traits, GG, CT and CT-AG-GA appeared to be the beneficial genotypes. The results recommend that CIDEC gene might have potential effects on body measurement and meat quality traits in Qinchuan cattle population and could be used for marker-assisted selection (MAS).
