This study presents the development of an active wireless sensor node for fatigue crack detection based on nonlinear wave modulation technique.This self-contained sensor node is mainly composed of an excitation/sensing module,a high-speed processor module and a processing core/communication module.Using packaged PZT transducers attached to a target structure,ultrasonic waves at two distinctive frequencies are generated,and their modulation due to fatigue crack formation is detected using another PZT transducer.
