The environmental impact resulting from mining activities is serious and ubiquitous all over the world.Heavy metal pollution is a growing environmental problem,which requires,immediate attention.An environmental geochemical investigation was carried out in and around the Lead-Zinc mining and Zinc smelting area to determine the concentrations of heavy metals in the soil.The main objective of this study was to analysis the characteristics contaminated of heavy metal and to assess the degree of pollution in the study area.The total concentrations of Cd,Pb,Zn,and Cu were determined by AAS.The investigation indicated the heavy metal content is very high,with Cd,Pb,Zn and Cu content maximum of 12.39,438.10,603.55 and 91.41 mg/kg,respectively.Geoaccumulation index analysis indicated that the soil that has suffered non-pollution to severe pollution of Cd and Pb,and non-pollution to mid-pollution of Cu and Zn.Results from the investigated localities indicated that some problems associated with environmental quality deterioration should be solved in the future.
