A New Stress-Strain Simulation Scheme on Digital Rock

  Digital rock physics is studied widely in oil and gas exploration for several decades.The current study intends to develop a new stress-strain simulation scheme to calculate P-and S-wave velocities along specific directions.To implement the stress-strain simulation,the digital rock is supposed to be made up of elastic solids and Newtonian fluids.Then the digital sample is compressed and pulled in a sinusoidal mode along one direction with periodic boundary condition in other directions.The variations of stress and strain with time are derived by solving wave equations.Stress and strain rate curves are obtained and transformed into frequency domain.The complex elastic moduli are the ratio of stress to strain in frequency domain.Velocities are calculated from complex elastic moduli and density.The accuracy is partially tested by static simulation.This approach is very suitable to calculate the velocities of digital rock with mechanical anisotropy and the measuring direction is in agree with that of field and laboratory measurements.In recent years,velocities measurements within and close to seismic frequency band attract more and more attention.The stress-strain simulation would become an important supplementary technique to help data interpretation.
