Long wave motion has been analysed in an elastic layer for a number of years. In respect of a linear isotropic elastic layer, analysis of so-called low frequency long wave motion results in the establishment of the classical theories of bending and extension. In respect of long wave high frequency motion, models appropriate for motion within the vicinity of the thickness resonance frequencies have been derived 1.A similar methodology has been applied to establish generalizations for pre-stressed elastic media 2,3 and boundary conditions 4.
