本文分析了和谐社会的涵义。阐述了图书情报在构建和谐社会中的作用：它是知识的主要载体；它能大大加快科学研究的进程，促进新知识、斯思想、新发现和斯发明的产生。极大地推动科研和生产力的发展：它对领导决策有十分重要的作用；它为构建和谐社会提供了有力工具：它是素质教育的第二课堂.提出了图书情报在构建和谐社会中的任务：提高服务质量；加强图书情报网络的建设和资源的共享；加速自动化建设；只有提高内部素质，才能提供
