  To satisfy the requirements for passive safety protection during railway vehicle collisions,this study proposes a composite energy-absorbing structure for a certain subway vehicle.The structure is composed of a front-end plate,tapered square tube,diaphragm,aluminum honeycomb structure,guide rail,and rear-end plate.A finite element model of the energy absorbing structure is established in ANSYS/LS-DYNA,and the validity of the numerical model is verified by the impact experiment.
