  Concentric needle electromyography (EMG) has been routinely used as the primary electrodiagnostic tool for examination of neuromuscular diseases.Yet this approach is painful, demands advanced expertise, has limitation in its sampling properties, and is costly for routine use.In recent years, high density surface EMG techniques have been developed using electrode arrays comprised of a number of closely spaced tiny recording probes.Because these methods are noninvasive and painless, and because of the added value of the spatial information they provide, there are many applications that such arrays can offer beyond needle EMG, and other routine electrophysiological methods.However, high density surface EMG has been little used as a clinical tool for examination of neuromuscular diseases.
