Aim: Metallothioneins are ubiquitous low molecular weight, cysteine-rich and metal binding proteins in mammals. The major isoforms in CNS are MT-Ⅰ and-Ⅱ which localize mainly in astrocytes.Recently significant efforts have been made to the study the biological functions of MT-Ⅰ/Ⅱ in the central nervous system. This study is to investigate the role of MT-Ⅰ/Ⅱ in cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury in focal ischemia repeffusion model and oxygen-glucose deprivation reperfusion model.
