Intefleukin-27 (IL-27) is a heterodimeric cytokine of the IL-12 family that is composed of two subunits,i.e.Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-induced gene 3 (EBI3) and IL-27p28 (also known as IL-30).Autoimmune colitis is an experimental model of human colitis, where the colon inflammation is considered to be mediated by Thl7 and/or Thl responses.Although the role of endogenous IL-27 in the pathogenesis of autoimmune colitis remain controversial, exogenous IL-27 has been shown to be inhibitory.
