The study of Coxsackie virus type A 16 (CA16) that is one of the major causative agents for hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), suggested that two types of virion were identified in the harvest from cell culture in terms of a real (R) virion fraction containing complete viral particles and a pseudo (P) virion fraction containing capsids without RNA respectively.To investigate the biological characterizations of both virions, especially their immunogenicity, this work described the distinctive difference of two virions in their structure, pathogenecity and immunogenicity.The results indicate that two virion fractions with the major components of viral antigen in their structures, showed a similar pathogenicity in neonatal murine and had the capability to primarily induce an effective immune response in adult murine, regardless of some exhibited differences have been observed.
