A novel (Ti5Si3+TiBw)/Ti-6Al-4V composite with two-scale network architecture fabricated by in-situ

  Novel hybrid-reinforced(Ti5Si3+TiBw)/Ti-6Al-4V composite was in situ sintered via reaction hot pressing(RHP).TiB whisker(TiBw)formed one-scale network structure around Ti-6Al-4V particles,while Ti5Si3 precipitation formed two-scale network architecture in β-Ti phase.Therefore,the ratio between Ti5Si3 and TiBw reinforcement is adjustable.This novel structure is believed to be beneficial to the properties of the composite.In addition,the size and distribution of Ti5Si3 precipitation was controlled by heat treatment.The prepared(Ti5Si3+TiBw)/Ti-6Al-4V composite exhibits a significantly higher tensile strength than those of the monolithic reinforced TiBw/Ti-6Al-4V,and the hybrid-reinforced(TiBw+TiCp)/Ti-6Al-4V.
