Temporal and spatial analysis of vegetation and land surface temperature in mining area of Mentougou

Two scenes of Landsat TM images of Mentougou District in 1996 and 2010 were used to calculate vegetation indexes and land surface temperature (LST).500m*500m grids were generated to extract about 5600 sample points to analysis the connection of vegetation indexes and LST qualitatively and quantitatively.The result is: from 1996 to 2010,the strong heat island area turns down from 71.6km2 to 13.0km2,the secondary strong heat island area drops from 957.1km2 to 605.8km2,the basic region rises from 249.5 km2 to 551.9 km2,and the cool region rises from 148.5 km2 to 255.9 km2.The heat island intensity (HII) grade graphic shows the transformation trend is: strong heat island changes into secondary strong heat island,the secondary changes into the basic region,and the basic region changes into cool region.In addition,the statistic result of the sample points is: the LST is significant negative correlated with egetationindexes.LST and ratio shortwave infrared index (RSI) have the most relevant linear relationship,and the determination coefficient is 0.611.The result shows that during the 15 years from 1996 to 2010,the recovered vegetation in Mentougou District can adjusted temperature and reduced heat island effect obviously.
