Aqueous copper mediated living radical polymerization has been developed as a powerful tool to synthesize a series of functional water-soluble polymers with controlled chain length and narrow molecular weight distribution.1 This strategy utilized a tetradentate tertiary amine-based ligand,Tris[2-(dimethylamino)ethyl]amine (Me6TREN),which has been concluded as not suitable for aqueous atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) due to very fast disproportionation of CuIX/Me6TREN in water.
