近十多年来,中国戏曲搬演外国戏剧的剧目越来越多,大有越做越旺的趋势。被改编得最多的当数莎剧,莎剧被改编成京剧、越剧、川剧、昆曲、粤剧、湘剧、豫剧、沪剧、琼剧、黄梅戏、丝弦戏等剧种在全国各地上演,许多莎剧如《罗蜜欧与朱丽叶》、《威尼斯商人》、《第十二夜》、《无事生非》等还不只一次地被搬上戏曲舞台,其热潮可见一斑。戏剧界业已公认莎剧与戏曲之间有许多相同相通之处,可以说,戏曲莎剧已渐入佳境,大有可为。比较而言,戏曲改编其他外国戏剧的剧目则相对较少,即使有,改编者也是慎之又慎、顾虑重重:如何协调不同民族的个性心理?如
