An university library in the hot-humid region was chosen as a study object,and its indoor environments and usersthermal adaptive behaviors were investigated in the summer cooling period.Thermal environment measurement and questionnaire investigation were conducted in the field study.The change regulations,causes,motivations of window opening and fan use and their effects to the indoor environment were focused in this study.The investigation results show that behavior of window opening occurs when indoor temperatures are higher than outdoor temperatures,and consciousness to close windows is weak;the main motivations are heat dissipation and letting fresh outdoor air into the room;its influence on the indoor air environment is small but the temperature variation range is large;it makes the temperature of the area close to windows rise up by an average of 0.6℃ ~ 1.9℃.Use fo Fan occurs half to one hour after entering the library and there is an obvious tendency to close windows;the main motivations are to strengthen the indoor air flow and heat dissipation,fan use has a great effect on the increase of indoor wind speed and comfort,making the average wind speed up by 3.7 times,and the thermal environment satisfaction is increased by 15%.This study is aimed to provide constructive suggestions for the improvement of the indoor environment and energy saving implementation of public buildings in the hot-humid region.
