The political unrest in the Middle East and North Africa, which began in early 2011,was a mass resistance movement with endogenous and Arab characteristics. It let loose personal, social and religious powers.1These movements were different from those earlier because they did not stem from party politics or ideological struggles, but rather there were spontaneous expressions of public discontent that led to regime changes and pushed political reform. There are many kinds of powers that take hold following these kinds of unrest:some are democratic, some promote extremism, some seek religious freedom, some advocate autonomy, while others fight for independence. The modernization of the Arab world is associated with the West.Governrnents in the region have tended to rely heavily on westem powers, oppress domestic individual freedoms, and limit the space for domestic political, social and religious organizations.
