These age data are obtained from the ESM dating of fault mud, the ~ (14) C dating of fault zone sediments and the historical earthquakes. In central California, the historical records in the San Andreas fault zone and the paleoseoseismic records of the San Gabriel fault zone show a self-similarity of 0.43-0.46. The fractal dimension of the San Andres Fault Zone in southern California at the time scale of historical and paleoearthquakes is 0.67, indicating that the distribution of faults is more uniform than in central California. At timescale <1a, the distribution is random.
