甜高粱是普通高梁的变种,与普通高粱的最大区别是成熟时茎秆中含有大量的甜汁,糖份含量很高,主要有蔗糖、葡萄糖、果糖,还有淀粉、果胶、有机酸、树胶质、蜡质物、色素、粗纤维等。甜高粱茎秆产量高,每亩可达2500～3000公斤,每亩产种子100～150公斤。
