中国工程院院士,著名蔬菜育种专家。 20世纪60年代.他率先在我国开展黄瓜抗病育种研究,经过40余年的刻苦攻关,成功地将抗病、丰产和早熟性结合在一起,攻克了黄瓜的霜霉病、白粉病、枯萎病,解决了黄瓜低产劣质的难题,育成津研、津杂、津春等优秀品种,在全国黄瓜栽培面积的80%以上的土地上推广采用,累计创经济效益100亿元。这些黄瓜新品种的抗病性、丰产性,均居国际领先水平。由于他贡献突出,曾荣获国家发明二等奖、国家科技进步二等奖、中国工程科学技术奖及全国科学大会奖、杜邦科技创新奖、天津市科技重大成就奖等,还荣获全国“五一”劳动奖章、全国先进工作者称号。他创建的天津市黄瓜研究所,在2000年被评为天津市特等劳动模范集体。

After more than 40 years of hard work, he successfully combined disease resistance, high yield, and early maturation to overcome downy mildew, powdery mildew, and blight of cucumber. The solution to the problem of low yield and quality of cucumber is to develop excellent varieties such as Jinyan, Jinza, and Jinchun, and promote the use of more than 80% of the cultivated area of cucumber in the country. The cumulative economic benefit is 10 billion yuan. The disease resistance and high yield of these new varieties of cucumbers all rank at the leading international level. As a result of his outstanding contributions, he has won the National Invention Second Prize, the National Science and Technology Progress Second Prize, the China Engineering Science and Technology Award, the National Science Conference Award, the DuPont Technology Innovation Award, and the Tianjin Science and Technology Major Achievement Award. "Labor Medal, National Advanced Worker Title. The Tianjin Institute of Cucumber Research, which he founded, was awarded the Tianjin Model Team for Special Labor Models in 2000.
