Objective To observe the changes of trace elements and body composition in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and to explore the relationship between the changes and the occurrence and development of GDM. Methods GDM patients (GDM group) and normal pregnant women (NC group) were selected, 150 cases in each group. The general data were collected and the trace elements and human body composition were tested and compared. Results The contents of zinc, iron, copper, selenium and chromium in GDM group were lower than those in NC group (P <0.05). There was no significant difference between the two groups in calcium and magnesium (P> 0.05). The water, muscle, fat, body fat percentage, protein, intracellular water and extracellular water in GDM group were higher than those in NC group (P <0.05). Conclusion The content of trace elements in GDM patients is decreased and the content of human body components is increased. Pregnant women should be timely, appropriate to add the lack of trace elements, monitoring body composition changes, control of abdominal fat and total energy intake.
