偶读《歌德谈话录》,歌德对青年诗人的一次忠告对今天写戏的人也是颇有启发的。歌德说:“如果作者每天都抓住现实生活,经常以新鲜的心情来处理眼前事物,他就总可以写出一点好作品。”恩格斯曾经指出歌德的世界观体现了伟大诗人和德国庸俗市民的矛盾,但歌德文艺观中最基本的一条却是现实主义的。他主张文艺必须从客观现实出发。他劝告青年作者多多留心观察现实生活,不要脑子里老在想着写一部大部头的作品,却丧失掉对当前现实生活本身的乐趣。
