In 1902, the U.S. government decided to hold the 1904 World’s Fair. The U.S. ambassador to China, Conger, strongly urged the emperor and the empress dowager to attend the meeting. Empress decayed by the elderly, inconvenience to travel because of the refusal, but promised to attend the Prince Jane attend to show re-friendship, peace and harmony.
