Steel box girders used in elevated rapid transit structures have become popular over the past decade. This structure includes both straight and curved beams, and requires design engineers to use the latest technologies and research in the design of these components. When developing appropriate design guidelines, RTS engineers can choose from a variety of existing regulations, as well as interim or recommended design guidelines. For other agencies, this choice is often less effective. For this purpose, the purpose of this report is to give a uniform guideline for the design of steel box girders and curved beams for rapid transit structures. This guideline will include recommendations on (1) loads, (2) allowable stress designs, and (3) strength design. It also lists some of the tables that give all the appropriate criteria in a concise and uniform manner.
