Scavengers are added to Polyolefins to deactivate undesirable catalyst residues, such as metals and chlorides.While transition metals and chlorine co-catalysts are necessary for efficient polymerization, presence of chloride ions in polyolefins can result in the formation of hydrochloric acid if not properly scavenged.
