Mass balance study, in which the radionuclide labeling technique can be used to obtain more detailed pharmacokinetic data, is very important for drug research and development. The radioactive drugs are used in human subjects to obtain basic information relating to metabolism, human physiology, pathophysiology, and biochemistry, rather than to accomplish immediate therapeutic or diagnostic purposes or to determine the safety and effectiveness of the drug.
