Background: Lovastatin is a member of statins (competitive inhibitors of HMG-CoA reductase),which can reduce the formation of important immune responses cell-signaling proteins through the mevalonate pathway, then exert immunomodulatory effect.Recently, Statins have been reported to be beneficial in a lot of T cell-mediated autoimmune diseases. But the immunomodulatory mechanisms require further investigation.Kv1.3 potassium channels play important roles in the activation, proliferation and cytokine secretion of T cells, and has become an attractive target for many T cell-related autoimmune diseases. The present study was designed to examine the block effect of Lovastatin on Kv1.3 channels in human T cells, to clarify its new immunomodulatory mechanism.
