The functional requirements for MEMS packaging have been evolved with the functionality of MEMS devices.Besides the hermetic sealing and the protection of the MEMS devices the packaging has to allow an interaction between the packaged device, its environment and the IC.The interaction can be optical, electrical or mechanical.To ensure to have a cost effective production, a MEMS design that guarantees the smallest possible footprint is mandatory.Often this is very difficult to fulfill.
