The c-Jun NH2-terminal kinases (JNKs) are members of the mitogen-activated protein kinase family and active several transcription factors, including p53, c-Jun and activating-protein 1.Thus, the JNK signal transduction pathway plays important roles in cellular processes, such as cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis.Targeted inactivation of JNK1, one of the ubiquitously expressed JNKs, has been found to cause impaired immunological response and increased skin tumor susceptibility.To elucidate the importance of JNK1 in intestinal homeostasis and tumorigenesis, we utilized a novel JNK1 knockout mouse model to characterize intestinal cell maturation and tumorigenesis.
