"Man only needs to exercise his engineering ingenuity to convert the oceans surge into a national asset."-President John F.Kennedy, 1962 on a tidal project in Maine,USA.Tidal energy is especially attractive as an alternative to carbon-based forms of energy, because unlike wind or solar, it is constant and entirely predictable, is capable of producing abundant amounts of energy, produces no green-house gases, and has been proven to be both feasible and economic for energy producers and consumers. Some concern is expressed about the effect of tidal generators during the period called slack tide between the front tide stop coming in and before the ebb tide retreats to sea and also between the ebb tide and front tide arriving twice each day. This period can be 15 to 30 minutes long without electricity being produced.Storage reservoirs will meet the need of continued operation and produce electricity 24 hours a day, 3,600 seconds per hour. This system design can be used around the world where there is 10 feet of tide differential and does not need to dam up rivers or inlets.
