Geographical Complexity in Bos indicus from China and India as Revealed by Mitochondrial DNA Analysi

  During the last decade, emergence of sequence data related to domestic animals like cattle,chicken, and goat laid support in favor of multiple domestication against the single domestication event.In this, pilot study we sequenced partial mtDNA D-loop region in 78 sequences of cattle from China and India.The phylogenetic analysis using parsimony and Bayesian approach reconfirms the presence of Bos indicus and Bos taurus sequences.Moreover, highly divergent Bos indicus and Bos taurus cluster further support their respective domestication from two sub-species of wild aurochs namely Bos primigenius namapadicus and Bos primigenius primigenius respectively.Interestingly, the dissection of Bos indicus clade reveals geographical complexity associated with this bovid.We found three diverged clusters within the Bos indicus clade designated as I1, I2 and I3.Earlier, two diverged clusters have been reported in the Bos indicus namely I1 and I2.The occurrence of additional cluster I3 in the present day Bos indicus points toward multiple domestication of zebu cattle against duality reported earlier.In future sampling of more Bos indicus from China and Indian typing by other DNA markers like Y-chromsomme and SNPs would cast more light on the genetics of domesticated cattle in the South Asia.
