  This paper presents a computational model for simulating the thermal-physical and chemical processes,taking place in iron-making blast furnaces.The model arranges the different material types in the furnace into two phase-groups: the gas phase group and the solid-liquid phase group.This treatment significantly simplifies the model.It has the advantage that in each group the transport properties vary smoothly.Mass,heat and momentum exchanges taking place among and between the two groups.Unlike the usual multi-phase treatments which assumes that all phases share the same pressure,this model drops the single pressure field assumption,therefore the two fluid groups have their own pressure fields.The model is implemented by applying the popular computational libraries,and using the so-called “PIMPLE” algorithm,which combines the advantages of PISO(Pressure-Implicit Splitting Operator)and SIMPLE(Semi-Implicit Method for Pressure-Linked Equations)algorithms.The model presented in the paper has been shown to be efficient and effective,thus can be used as a basis for developing a systematic numerical modeling platform for simulating processes taking place in blast furnaces.
