Iron plays an important role in the growth of marine organism.Due to the low solubility of iron(Ⅲ)and the formation of highly insoluble oxyhydroxides in surface seawater,dissolved iron is present atvery low concentrations (＜0.5 nmol/L).Under iron-limited conditions,marine microorganisms areable to secrete low-molecular-weight,highly specific iron chelators named as siderophores.
