Various conditions for differentiating ES or iPS cells into a specific kind of cell are under intensiveinvestigation. However, the production of a functional organ with a threedimensional structure from ES or iPS cells is difficult to achieve in vitro. In order to try to produce an organ from ES cell origin, we tried to produce xenogeneic chimeric animals. For this purpose, first, we established rat ES cell lines. The germline transmission was confirmed after incorporating ubiquitously-expressed GFP transgene.Next, GFP-expressing rat ES cells were injected into mouse blastocysts (mouse\-rat ES chimera). The rat ES cells contributed to various organs in the mouse\-rat ES chimera, including germ cells.
